Property Search Criteria
We are interested in either buying bare land and building a facility
or in adapting or renovating an existing building. Please contact
Carol Collins if you
know of any potential properties in our area, with the following
parameters:
- Less than 45 minutes from IMC
- Minimum property size of 1 acre in a quiet area
- Either very private with minimal neighbors, or
already being used as an overnight facility: such as Residential Care
Facilities or Camps.
- Potential for attractive and private grounds
Cost guidelines: The only
suitable properties we have found cost at least $4 million dollars,
well above the $2.4 million we currently have for this project.
Approximately $4 million would allow us to purchase a property, but we
would still need more funds to fully develop a property.
We estimate $5.5 million total project budget.
A note regarding ambience:
Whether we adapt an existing building for a retreat center, or build
a new structure on vacant land, our intention is to fit quietly
and unobtrusively into the neighborhood. The site should have adequate
space for parking so our center does not put a strain on existing
street parking. Retreats will be scheduled in order to minimize
traffic in the area; once a retreat begins, there will be little
coming and going for the duration of the retreat. If we construct
a new building, it should be modest in its proportions, and attractive
in its materials and details, so that it enhances the appearance
of the existing neighborhood. Our desire is to be a “good
neighbor” regarding architecture, quietude, and minimal use
of automobiles. We hope nearby residents will be glad to have us
for neighbors.
