Online Retreat Schedule

Insight Retreats are opportunities to engage in full-time mindfulness training. The daily schedule involves periods of sitting and walking meditation, instructions, dharma talks, work meditation, and practice discussion with teachers. Silence is maintained throughout most of the retreat.

Cost: Our retreats are offered freely at no cost to anyone who participates. Most of the financial support for IRC comes from donations participants offer at the end of retreats. Their generosity is what allows others to participate in future retreats.

Deposit: A refundable deposit is required to apply for a retreat. The deposit is not charged when you apply and would only be charged if you are admitted to a retreat then cancel after the cancellation deadline or fail to show up at the retreat.

Lottery: All applications that come in during the first 3 weeks of registration are entered into a lottery. Those not selected can be placed on the Waiting List.

Daylong Retreat:  A Day of Quiet Practice with Matthew Brensilver

Saturday January 16th 2021   9:30am – 4:30pm  Pacific Time (US and Canada)

In practicing mindfulness, we cultivate a sense of refuge. The sense of refuge fosters the ease and stability such that we can allow more and more of the world to rush into our heart. Please join us in this day of quiet practice as we sit in the protection afforded by a 2600-year legacy of wisdom and compassion.

The day will include sitting and walking meditation, guided practice, and conclude with a dharma talk. You are kindly asked to participate in the full day – or as much of the day as you are able.

We will explore a relaxed open awareness with an emphasis on exploring qualities of mind, and the attitude towards one’s experience. These teachings are inspired by Sayadaw U Tejaniya. Such an open awareness practice supports both the formal meditation of sitting and walking, as well as awareness of our normal daily activities. Since this is an online retreat, we realize that many of you will be retreating from home, or sheltering-in-place with families, and that you may have needs and responsibilities in addition to the retreat. This practice applies to all of that activity. If your situation allows for seclusion, the practice also applies to formal meditation practice. One of the beautiful things about Sayadaw U Tejaniya’s teachings is that the same meditation instructions apply, whether we are sitting in stillness or practicing in relationship to the world. However, we request that if you decide to register for the retreat, you agree to commit to attend the teaching sessions each day, and your every-other day practice meeting with the teachers. There will be a few scheduled community sittings each day, to offer support for the practice community, but largely you will be encouraged to practice in your own rhythms.
